Protect Access to Life-Saving Care: Tell Congress to Extend the Enhanced PTC!

The Enhanced Premium Tax Credit (PTC) has been a lifeline for many individuals with bleeding disorders, making access to specialized, life-saving treatments possible. However, unless Congress acts to extend these credits beyond the 2025 plan year, millions of Americans, including those in our community, will face unaffordable premiums—and for many, the loss of access to critical care.
Enhanced PTC's are increased subsidies under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that help lower the cost of health insurance for individuals and families purchasing coverage through the ACA marketplace. These enhancements expand eligibility and provide larger subsidies, ensuring that no enrollee pays more than 8.5% of their income on premiums. This makes health coverage more affordable, especially for middle-income individuals and those previously ineligible for assistance.
Why This Matters
The bleeding disorders community faces unique challenges:
  • Extraordinary Costs: Treating bleeding disorders like hemophilia costs an average of $300,000 per year, far beyond what most families can afford.
  • High Premiums for Comprehensive Plans: Patients often rely on gold and platinum-tier plans to cap out-of-pocket costs and ensure access to specialized care. Without the Enhanced PTC, these plans will become unaffordable.
  • Coverage at Risk: According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), failure to extend the Enhanced PTC will result in premium increases for nearly all ACA Marketplace enrollees and an estimated 3.4 million individuals losing their health insurance coverage.
We need YOUR help to ensure lawmakers understand how critical this is for our community.
